I'm getting closer on these goals! Some still to do, some to report. I've savored PLENTY while reading this fall, thank you very much. But this treat provides the best story.
It started with my General Conference weekend treat: an entire box of Brown Sugar Cinnamon Poptarts. These do not normally cross my threshold anymore, but it was a holidayish weekend, and they were GREAT. At the same time, my cousin Marianne reported on her Saturday facebook and instagram feed the amazing homemade concoctions in her home. When I mentioned that I was not quite as fancy as she was, she predicted that "another time, you will stay up all night, handcrafting them."
Um. Yeah. That Wednesday. You see, I remembered that King Arthur Flour has a recipe for homemade toaster pastries. And then I started obsessing.
One cup of butter to two cups of flour makes for a rather flaky pastry.
Since then, I've made mini ones and regular ones for parties, with brown sugar and cinnamon, with apple butter, with Idaho huckleberry jam, and with fudge fillings (as in the photo above).* They're handy for parties, because you can freeze them and cook them when needed.
I used a fork to make different vent marks so that I'd know which ones are which. Imagine how cute they'd be with pastry letters on them, though - B for brown sugar, F for fudge... Oh man. I need to make more.
Oh, and I read something while I ate. The end.
*Brown sugar cinnamon ones are still the best.
