Happy Father's Day and Happy Summer! Want to justify eating ice cream while you read? Need an excuse to walk through a bookstore? Hoping to discover a little something about a local landmark?
At my library, the kids start signing up for the summer reading program tomorrow. Since I don't think that I get to sign up (although I've never had the guts to ask), here's my Read for Fun program for 2009.
Like last year's chart, it's not intended to encourage reading lots of books. Instead, it marks the moments that we, as adults, can grab for reading. The five-minute summer vacations.
Want to play? Download the PDF file:
Please leave a comment to let me know that you're playing. There will be a reward sometime in September.
Once again, the chart includes eight squares already filled in with goals, with corresponding pictures (courtesy of Dover's bookplates) on the sticker sheet. Feel free to change the goals as needed. My friend Julie's son helped me with some of the goals. He's ten or so, and had great ideas.
Choose eight of the other stickers to customize your plan. Two are blank, in case you think of a goal that I couldn't.
Have fun! Please share some of your favorite moments!
There's a badge over there in the sidebar - feel free to borrow if you want one. Since I add badges about once a year, let me know if there's a problem.

Ohboyohboyohboy! What a perfect treat to find
on the first day of Summer!
The illustrations, the goals, the *font*! What a treat. I can't decide which one to do first, but it'll either be reading outside or reading with a frozen treat. Maybe both!

I think I'll join you and ask my 14 yo dd to also since she's too big to do the library ones. I used to love the summer reading program at my library when I was a kid.

Ok, so it may be worth asking because my public library has a summer adult reading program. You enter once for each book you read and they have monthly drawings for prize baskets with goodies from local businesses.

Yeah! Thanks for doing this again. It was so fun for me last year to have my chart hanging on the fridge along with those of my kids from the local library. Count me in - I have a stack of books already I want to savor this summer while we all enjoy a more relaxed schedule. Your chart is so pretty and I love the various stickers. Thanks for the great ideas.

Great idea. I missed it last year. I'm ready to go this summer. I'm going to print my charts out and put them in my journal. I love the idea about discovering a new library. I *love* libraries!

Count me in! I've decided that if my kids have scheduled reading time everyday, then I should get some too!

I'm in! I only have 420 books to read before 2010 so I can hit my 1,000 goal. Bring it on!!! When a move was imminent, one of my children said,"Mom, what will you do without your bookclubs??" I just go to my online friends! love you. Auntie L

Count me in! I love things like this. My library did have a reading program for adults last summer. You should check at the desk.

I was so excited to pop over today and find this summer's reading chart. I still have last year's up - just to remind myself that it is okay to be frivolous and do something fun for ourselves once in a while. I'm playing along and printed out one for my reading friend too.
