Read for Fun: Summer 2008

Readforfun creamsicle 800

Happy Summer! In honor of the season, here is my own little summer reading chart in honor of those great library programs that I enjoyed years ago. It's not intended to encourage reading lots of books. Instead, it marks the moments that we, as adults, can grab for reading. The 5-minute summer vacations.

Want to play? Feel free to download and print the files - available in two color schemes:

Download readforfuncreamsicle.pdf

Download readforfunblue.pdf

and let me know if you're playing. There will be a reward at the end of the summer! Or, knowing me, early fall.

The chart has a few squares already filled in that can be covered with pictures: "read with a frozen treat;" "wander through a bookstore." Because you're a grown-up, you're allowed to change those goals to anything that will match the picture.

Then there are other stickers that can go anywhere, like "read before the dishes are done." Some of the stickers are blank, so that they can be filled in with other goals/moments.

Readforfun detail

Only sixteen squares - sixteen moments of reading and enjoying books this summer.

It's my first time posting files, so if you can't download, let me know. And feel free to steal the badge over in the right column, if you know how. I can post the html code for the badge if anyone is interested.

i SO love this idea! i'm in!

I love this! I already have my summer reading chart, as I designed one for my summer reading program, but it's way not as cute as this! It's also focused on kiddos, but I think we'll still have fun!

Perfect! you have awakened my inner good student/avid reader. I get one sticker already because I browsed in a used books store today and brought a promising book home. Looking forward to a summer of great discoveries, although reading in the rain should prove to be a serious challenge here in drought-stricken California!

I just saw this on Kirsten's blog...what a neat idea! (So nicely done, too--cute!) I've been on a reading tear lately (okay, my whole life, but I'm super-double book fiendish at the moment). I'm definitely in, thank you :)

Sign me up! What fun! If trying to get my neighbors to relieve me of some of my zucchini wasn't quite enough to make Summer official, this certainly is! And today I read outside and loaned a book.

Very, very fun! I'm in. I need a little boost to remember to read something other than blogs!

What a wonderful idea. I will be playing along with you. I also need to figure out how to grab the badge. I am new to this. Thank you for a fun idea.

Sign me up too! :) Sounds very fun and I am always trying to sneak a few minutes of reading in.

I love this! I'm going to share with some friends. I'm inspired. This is the proper spirit for summer reading. :)

Thank You! Love this. I'm going to print it out for a few friends and post mine next to my boys reading charts. I can't compete with board books (it is taking a month to finish one novel) but now I have my own way to chart some progress:-) Thanks again!

I can't take my eyes off of this - it is so lovely! I don't anticipate a lot of time for reading this summer but as you said, it the bits and pieces we can sneak in here and there. I linked to your blog from mine, I hope that was okay. Thank you kindly!!

Oh my gosh, sign me up! This is the most adorable thing I have seen this week, heck, maybe all month *grin* I have been desperately trying to get in some reading time with books that don't begin, "Once Upon A Time" or end with "and the dish ran away with the spoon"! Printed off my copy, going to add it to my journal.

I've just returned from two weeks of vacation and am trying to catch up on blog posts I missed while away. I love this summer reading program of yours and am joining in the fun. Thank you so much as I've always been rather sad that such a thing wasn't offered for adults--I fondly remember those programs as a child.

I just found this on kirstencan. I'm reading already. I am always jealous when the kids get to start the summer reading program. Thanks for doing this for grownups!

hrm... i could swear i commented on this, but i don't see it ... GREAT idea and such fun! i read with a child everyday, so that at least gets me one sticker! :) too fun

Sign me up too. I love summer reading programs.

This is such a fun idea :o) And I was wondering, too - what program did you use to make your calendar and sticker buttons? I have been wanting to make little label stickers for my brown paper book covers!
xox,
Linnea

Okay, I am WAY behind on this but I am trying to read more so I still really want to participate. Please count me in!

did anyone read Luncheon of the Boating Party? It's a fictionalization of Renoir creating his famous painting of the same name. I don't care if it's Labor Day already, you've GOT to read it!!!
